BALLPARK HISTORY

Ballparks are full of history. They each have thier own distinct features, The bricks and ivy in Wrigley, monument park and the mystique of Yankee stadium, the warehouse at Camden, the green monster at Fenway, and more, but when you go to a park its more than to see the game, its to take in the environment. As much as I dislike it, part of going to Turner is listening to the fans do that tommohawk chant. I also enjoy seeing the statues or plaques of players who have contributed to all that history.

Each ballpark also gives you a different perspective of the game. What might be a HR at one park is just a fly ball in another. The site lines, angles and views of a game vary from park to park, even if your sitting in the same general area. Also the in game extras , like the mascot races, or singing the stretch at Wrigley, Sweet Caroline at Fenway, or the 7th inning God Bless America at Yankee stadium.

Another great thing about parks is visiting the local bar near the stadium. Harry Carays and Murphy's in Chicago, Pickles in Baltimore, Hockeytown Cafe in Detroit, Hooters in Anaheim, Rock Bottom Brewery in Denver (and Cinci), Harpoon Brewery in Boston, and Billys sports bar in the Bronx.

Turner Field, 2013

As usual, I will be making multiple game posts on this page. I will be going to at least 3-4 more Braves games. It's only 1 week into the year and the Braves fans are already starting to tick me off. Yes, I know that you have a good team, and that my team kinda sucks, I get it, but when your awesome team actually wins something, gimme a call. Until then, STFU. Now on to the games.

Nationals 4/29

These were the free seats that I won through work. I've been lucky enough to win these four years straight now. As you can see they are awesome seats. Plus, we moved up about 8 more rows after the 2nd inning.
I was looking forward to seeing Strasburg, but he didn't impress tonight. He was wild and seemed like he was having a hard time locating his pitches. After seeing the replays he was very wild. Even with that he was still pretty good.He gave up 6 hits and 2 runs in 6 innings, He did walk 4 though, and that hurt him. Also the fact that the Nats were hitting Teheran around for 10 hits in 5 innings but only put 2 on the board due to getting picked off twice. Span on 1st in the 1st with Harper up. Harper doubled, run lost. Then Strasburg came up in the 2nd with 2 on and 0 out. He failed to get the bunt down and to make things worse, Tracy got picked off at 2nd after the 3rd strike bunt attempt. The braves scratched across a couple more runs and won 3-2.
It was a good game and competitive. I found it interesting that the crowd was booing Bryce Harper so hard. I know he is a little arrogant, but I guess they are just admitting that the kid is good. Maybe they will understand why so many people boo'ed Chipper all these years.

Cubs 4/7

Here is the current saying on the chik-fila cow. I think that is a repeat one, but I will have to look back on that. It was a beautiful day, especially for 1st week of April. After the Cubs blowing a 5-1 lead in the 8th last night to lose 6-5 on a walk-off in the 9th, I didn't have high hopes for today. I was right. The Cubs took an early lead with a RBI by Rizzo in the 1st.   Samardzjia was sharp today, but started to lose it in the 5th, and made it 1-1. He ended up giving up 3 more in the 6th and was clearly worn, because he threw 2 wild pitches and walked Gattis, who is a power hitter, but is not known for his walks. Dan Uggla added a solo shot in the 8th to make it a 5-1 final.

We had seats right up the 1st base line 2 rows from the field. That's where the Tool race characters come out for the race. They look even stranger up close.

I got a new zoom lens and am very happy with the results. Check out the ball that Soriano is about to hit for a single. It would have been cooler if he hit it for a HR, but no luck today.
By the way, the Final Four was in town this weekend, and there was a rock n roll "festival" right around the corner, so the traffic was an absolute nightmare. I knew it was gonna be bad, but what I didn't count on was the out of town guests that had no clue where they were going which caused gridlock around Turner Field. All the reason more to go tailgate early.

5 weeks away!

Before I get into the trip, I will be going to see the Cubs at Turner field on April 7. I didn't get to my first game last year until June. I will have at least 4, probably 5 in by May 1 this year. I will try to hit the Cubs on the 5th  as well, if I can get out of work. I already have minor league tickets for the 6th, so I will have to miss that one.
Now, onto the trip.
5 weeks from now and we will be traveling on our way to Pittsburgh. They will be hosting the Braves. We are gonna try to hit Primanti Bros while there, which shouldn't be hard because there is actually one in the stadium if we cant hit the one near the stadium. The local beer seems to be Iron City beer, so we will have to sample one with our sandwich.
We will then be heading to Cooperstown NY to hit the Hall of Fame. The plan is to spend the whole day cruising through the halls and we will spend a lot of time there. It closes at 5 p.m., which works out great because we are about 4 hours from our hotel outside of Boston from there.
We will crash outside of Boston, get up early and take the train into Boston early Saturday a.m.. Sam Adams has it's first tour around 10 a.m. and we will be there early to try to get in. The game is at 1:30 at Fenway vs. the Royals, so we will have plenty of time to get there. After the game we have a few options. We could go tour the Harpoon brewery, or just hang in the area around Fenway, and hit the local bars. Or both! We are staying in Boston that night too so it we have some flexibility. Taking transit around allows us to drink freely.
Sunday am we will be heading to Philly. After a 5 hour drive, we have some time to burn as well since the game vs. the Cardinals is the Sunday night game. Obviously we will be getting a cheese steak. Pats? Geno's? Well that is still up for debate. I read somewhere online that, since they are basically across the street from each other, to hit both. That a lot of food. We will see. That still leaves us with some spare time. I'm sure the game will be pretty filled considering it is a prime time game. We will get there early to check out the park. If we have a few hours extra, and anyone has any ideas, not including the historical stuff (Liberty Bell, etc) throw it out there. There are some local breweries, but they don't do tours on Sunday if at all.

Citizens Bank Park

The plan is in place.

Well, I have confirmation from Shawn, and we will be heading to the northeast in April. We are going to start in Pittsburgh, then head to Cooperstown to see the HOF, then up to Boston, and we will wrap up in Philly, which is the Sunday night game of the week.

I usually have a lot more time to plan, since we usually do a summer trip, but scheduling issues made us take this trip early this year. I know we are gonna try to work in a trip to Sam Adams Brewery while in Boston. Of course we will be getting cheese steak in Philly, The Hall Of Fame will be awesome by itself. In Pittsburgh, I know perogies are popular, but I want to try Primanti brothers. They supposedly have a steak sandwich to die for. And they have one in the park if need be as well.

So, if all goes well,  that will leave one park in the NE, Yankee Stadium, for me to see to complete my list from up there. Shawn will need to see Yankee Stadium, Citi Field, and Nationals park. I guess we will have to head back up there in 2014 or 2015.

Almost time for pitchers an catchers

While I believe the Cubs are done making moves for the time being, there are still a couple of key FA out there that haven't been picked up yet,  Michael Bourne and Kyle Loshe. It will be interesting to see where they land. Otherwise there is not a lot more to happen during the off season, and there will be a bit of a warm up for some players with the World Baseball Classic starting soon.

In my last post I said I was looking to hit the NE. Well that's what the plan is. It will start in Pittsburgh, then possibly hit Philly, Boston, the HOF, and Yankee Stadium in some order. I really want to work in the Hall Of Fame. That would be an awesome trip. The 2 I want to hit the most are Pittsburgh and Boston. I'm sure I will hit the NE again, so if I was to miss Philly or NY, I could live with it. I haven't gotten commitment from Shawn yet, and Chris will not be able to go on a trip until late summer, so I might do a second trip with Chris this year and maybe hit both Texas parks or both in Florida.

That will leave me 7 parks, if it works out correctly, to hit my mark. I am officially setting a mark of hitting all of them by the end of 2015 season. I would shoot for the end of 2014, but with Seattle, Minnesota, and Arizona left, they are pretty spread out and can't be hit on multi-park trips. When I make my trip in the summer with Chris I might hit 2 more parks, which will get me down to 5. This is all still in the works, but a plan is in place and I am determined to make it happen.

Hot stove 2012

Well the off season is here and Hot Stove has begun. I have been busy reading a lot of rumors about players.   Cub fans seem in the majority that the Cubs will not make any moves and will tank again this year. I disagree. I believe that they will get a couple of players that can help the team, while not going after that "big" name and $$$. I think they want to compete this year and after watching teams like the O's, A's and Nats make big improvements, without major moves, it is possible that with a few moves they can compete. If they can just hover around .500 until the deadline next year, they will have money to go out and get some upgrades. The Cubs front office has had a tendency to not let things leak, and moves happen without a lot of rumors first. Only time will tell.

So next years trips are being planned but I cannot commit until I get confirmation from my travel mates. It looks like we will be heading up to the NE and would like to hit at least 4 parks on the trip, but maybe more if it works out. One park that will definitely need to be worked in is Fenway. I've been trying to work it in the last couple of years, but it just hasn't worked out. Also, Yankee Stadium, Citi Field, PNC Park, Citizen Bank Park, and Nationals Park are the other options. I will also try to work one of the parks that is out of the way into one of my regular vacations, like Minnesota or Seattle.

Well it's finally over

At least for my Cubbies. Actually it was over a long time ago, but at least there was the chance to see some of the young guys play and see what might be the future. This is the worst team, at least by record, in my lifetime. As bad as they were, there is some hope, although slim, for 2013. It will depend if they can get a couple of pitchers that can get through the 3rd inning. We do have a decent core with Rizzo, Castro, Castillo and Barney in the IF, though we do need a 3B. We will see what they do with Sori, who had a good year, and CF. The Cubs wont be contending next year, but I believe they will be alot better.

The playoffs start tomorrow and I am still pumped about that. I would like to see the Braves go a little deep into the playoffs, for selfish reasons, I want to go to some more playoff games. In the AL, I will be pulling for the Tigers or O's, mainly because they are not the Yankees. When Jeter is in his final season, maybe I would like to see him go out on top, but we will have to wait and see about that.

My picks for the World Series are
Tigers vs. Reds
Tigers win it all
This is actually just a guess, not a pick, because as we all know, anything can happen in this crazy game we all love!!

Enjoy the playoffs, I will.

Rebuild mode.

With the Cubs trading off players and calling up youngsters, I still keep up with whats going on, but I am starting to focus on the division and wildcard races. I am happy to see that they have called up the youngsters and have some exciting things happening in the minors with some prospects as well. There is a lot of debate on what the Cubs will do in the off season, but I don't think anyone has a clue. Theo and co. have been quiet, which I think is great, and that's why there is no idea on what will happen. I bet that's just what they want.

I have never rooted for the Braves before, but wouldn't mind seeing them win it all. I have come to respect the player that Chipper Jones is, and would be nice to see him go out on top. Plus, I can go to a few playoff games. I am pumped to see the new Wildcard format, and see how it impacts the races and the Division series. There are a lot of teams still lined up for the playoffs with that in place and it could be real interesting down the stretch.

So we had another perfect game this year. There have only been 23 in all of MLB history, 3 this year alone. That makes six since 2009. Why so many? I don't know, and it doesn't bother me, it is still a feat that is special in baseball. A perfect game is still a no hitter. The difference in a no-no and perfection is just someone getting on by walk or error, so a lot of no hitters could have been perfect with just a small break. There have been 6 no hit games this year, and the modern record is 7, back in 1990, and 1991. Of those 14 no-no's in 90&91, only 1 was perfect. Either way, congrats Felix. Now I just need someone to do one at a game I am at.

So I read an article the other day about the Rays. I just happened to run across it somewhere on the net, but do not have a link. It was about the possible relocation of them. Saying that there is no market for them anywhere else. Well I disagree. I think an area that people have overlooked is Charlotte. It was the fastest growing ares in the U.S. until the economy took a dive and is still towards the top. Its neighbor, Raleigh, is top 5 right now. My point is that the Carolina's are great minor league cities and could draw from multiple areas. With the closest team north of there being about 5 hours away, and the Braves 4 hours south, it shouldn't be a problem building fans. The NFL has been pretty successful in Charlotte, and the area is set up well for it. If the Rays cannot find a solution for the problem in Tampa, I say move them to Charlotte .

Hot streak?

Well the Cubs were on a little hot streak for a bit, 14-5 in the last 19 games. We have lost the first two in St. Louis, with our #1 and #2 guys going and considering they might not be Cubs in a week, that could be a problem going forward. Even with those 2 losses, we are 14-7 in 21 games. We are not in the cellar anymore, and with the Astros just trading away whats left of their veterans, we should be able to stay out of there.

Rizzo started out hot, slowed down a bit, but has still been strong. Castro has struggled a bit, but is actually being more patient, which will make him better in the long run.

As far as the rest of MLB, well in the AL. the Yanks are running away from the pack in the East, the Rangers and Angels are battling it out in the West and the Tigers are finally playing up to expectations in the Central. There are 8 teams within 3 games for the 2 wild card spots with about a week left before the trade deadline. I'm interested to see what the next week brings.

In the NL, the Division races are all very tight, with Cinci, SF, and Washington leading, all by 2 games or less. There are only 4 teams within 4 games of the wildcard in the NL. The Mets and Dbacks are 5 & 6 out, but both have been struggling.

There is still a lot of baseball left and i just want to see the Cubs continue to develop and build for the future. I think we can compete better next year, and contend in 2013. Gotta have hope.

Sunday, July 1, 2012

Summertime is here.

So the Cubs are pretty bad this year, which is what was expected. But, with Rizzo called up there is a little hope shining through. At the same time, with the deadline approaching, we might get worse this year, while building for the future.
Some Cubs fans think we are 4-5 years away from competing. I disagree. Call me an optimist, but other teams have turned it around pretty quick. I'm not saying we're gonna win the series next year, but I believe we will be competitive in 2013 and contend in 2014.
But for now, I just have to enjoy baseball and see someone else enjoy their team win it all. I am used to that anyway, after all I am a Cubs fan.

I finally made it to Turner field this week. I will be going back again on July 3 for the Cubs game. I wanted to see Strasburg pitch on Saturday, but it was gonna be a record 105 degrees for a 4pm game. I watched some of it on tv and the park was empty. I guess heat stroke didn't appeal to a lot of folks.

I was playing around on here a bit and thought about changing the background. I thought if I used one of my own pics it would be pretty cool. Obviously the one I chose is the one that is there, but here are a few others that I was considering for the background of the blog. I had some fun with photoshop on a few of my pics, and they came out pretty cool, but I think I chose the right one.

Turner Field, 2012

I typically hit a few Braves games each year so I will just update this post with all games from 2012 as they happen.

Marlins 9/25
This is the last home stand of Chipper Jones career as a Brave. At least regular season. It was Kris Medlen pitching so I didn't expect a lot of offense from the Marlins. They did manage to take a lead into the 9th after some kid on the Marlins hit his second home run off Medlen for a 3-2 lead. Chipper lead off the bottom of the 9th with a double. Freeman came up and the first pitch was wild and Chipper moved up to 3rd. It was set up for the tying run to score. Freeman decided to put an end to it. 2 run shot to dead center and the Braves won 4-3, and clinched a playoff spot as well. The game was kind of slow, but the end more than made up for it.
I will try to make at least one Braves playoff game, depending how far they go.

Dodgers 8/18
Ben Sheets return from oblivion has hit a bump in the road. He was pretty impressive his first few games, but tonight he gave up back to back to back dingers in the 2nd inning and a 3 run shot in the 6th. I don't believe I have ever been to a game in which there was 3 back to back homers. I will have to look that one up. It was Hanley Ramirez that hit the first of the 3 HR and the 3 run shot also. He is pretty familiar with this team and park from his days with the Marlins.  It rained before the game. but it started on time and no rain during the game. We got lucky and there was a big group that had a bunch of extra seats in the RF bleachers, and got them for $5 each. They were going for around $45 at the gate.

Cubs 7/3
After the Cubs took game 1 in this series and they already took 2 of 3 from the Braves at home earlier in the season, I felt pretty good about our chances. Even though Chris Volstad was pitching, who had been horrible so far this year, there was some hope. And through 5 innings he looked pretty good. And the Cubs were up 3-1. Then it all broke loose. The Braves rallied for 5 in the 5th and 4 in the 6th and next thing I knew it was 10-3 Braves. Well, that's the life of a Cubs fan. I still had a great time. I got lower level seats 20 rows from the field right behind the on deck circle on the first base side. The best thing was they were FREE, I won them from work.

Turner Field

Here's a pic of Darwin Barney, Cubs 2nd baseman, hitting a shot up the 3rd base line. Chipper Jones made an amazing play and throw to get him. Today Chipper was added to the All-star team in his final season, and he went 5 for 5 with 3 singles, 2 doubles, 4 RBI, a SB and that great play. I know you Mets fans can't wait for him to retire, but he has killed the Cubs over the years too. The guy is a sure fire HOF'er, and I have learned over the last couple years to enjoy, and respect, him a bit more, even though I have a dislike for the Braves.

Turner Field Darwin Barney

Nationals 6/29
This is the first game I have been to at Turner this year. I am going again in a few days when the Cubs are here too. I was not planning to go to this game so I didn't have my camera. I did take 1 pic with the iphone.

The Nationals won 5-4. Atlanta was being shut down until they put up 2 in the 6th and the rookie, Simmons hit a 2 run shot in the 7th to tie it. Mike Morse hit a solo shot for the Nats in the top of the 8th, on the first pitch, for what ended up being the winning run.

So when the TBB were in Atlanta this year, they talked about the Hoochie Coochie song at Turner. Well I had to get a small clip to put on here so those of you that haven't been there can get a feel. The song is actually "Chattahoochie" by Alan Jackson.

They also sing "Thank god I'm a country boy" by John Denver after the 7th inning stretch.
Yes folks, Atlanta is in the deep south!!

Angel Stadium, 2012

#22
Angel Stadium

This was our 5th and final game of our 5 park trip. All 5 parks in Cali in 5 days. We passed Angel Stadium on I-5 on the way up to to Dodger Stadium. We could see the "big A"  and the stadium from the highway. We had 3 other games to got to first but were pumped to come back, and it didn't disappoint.
This was #22 on my list of all the ballparks. 19 current and 3 retired.

The outside is very sharp. The big A is awesome, but the home plate entrance is really cool. It has baseball bats coming off the wall holding up the canopy. Lots of red color with the banners and the 2 huge Angel hats.

Anaheim Angels

Here is Chris posin' on the Angels baseball in front of the hat.

They even put the size inside the rim of the hat.

Angels Stadium

The inside of the park is gorgeous too. We got inside and cruised around to take pics and they were everywhere. The rocks in center field is a waterfall on the backside. We had upper deck seats here but you can see the game while walking through the lower concourse, like Turner field, because it is wide open.

We moved to the the top behind home plate for some pics, and realized that it wasn't breezy there at all.  We decided to hang there for the game, they were very good seats. Just because it is mid June in So Cal, doesn't mean it is not cold. 63 and 10 mph wind is pretty cool at night, especially when drinking Shocktop. $10 for a 24 oz beer is a pretty good price too. Shawn would be proud of me, because I typically stick to basic beer, like Bud light or Miller lite. Stepping out and drinking that was out of my league. It was very good though.

So after missing the perfect game in SF by one day, we kept talking about how E Santana had a no-no under his belt, but chances were very slim of something like that happening. After 3 innings it was 2-0 Angels on a 2 run shot by Mark Trumbo.

After 6 innings, still 2-0, but 18 up and 18 down for Santana. After looking at the D-Backs lineup, they didn't have many good hitters left after the top of the order. He made it through the first 2 in the 6th until Justin Upton finally got to him. A ground ball just to the left of 2nd base. That is all he would give up the rest of the game. A 1 hit shutout and SO close to perfection. Well it was still great and a heck of a game to wrap this trip up. Final 2-0 Angels.

Here are the Mickey Mouse statues from when the all-star game was here in 2010.

Oakland Coliseum, 2012

#21
Oakland Coliseum

This was the 4th of 5 parks on our 2012 trip. First things first, I know the current name of this stadium is Overstock.com Coliseum, but I am calling it what it is. The Oakland Coliseum. Now, onto more important stuff.

The outside of this place is nothing to see at all. Not even worth a pic. It is just a few concrete walls and the back side of stands. Once inside it is a little better. They do cover up the seats on the upper level with the A's logo and retired #'s. They obviously don't use that space for baseball, so it's cool what they do with it.
The rest of the outfield is pretty blah, for a baseball park. The park is built more for football than baseball, but hopefully they will get a new park soon, wether it be in Oakland or San Jose.

Oakland Coliseum

The scoreboards are located above the foul lines on top of the stadium. Again, for football purpose. Not that bad of a scoreboard, but dull compared to most MLB parks.

Oakland Coliseum

The mascot came out before the game dressed in a rock n roll get up. I guess the game was sponsored by the movie "rock of ages" because the fireworks were played to the soundtrack after the game.

Oakland Athletics Mascot

The game was a pretty good one. Chris was wanting a high scoring game and got one. At least the A's scored a lot. The A's had a 5 run first and ended up winning 10-2 over the Padres. I was surprised not to see that many Padres fans. I guess 8 hours away is kind of like being in another state. The A's fans were really into the game and their team, even though they don't have that great a team right now. Nice to see.

I got some pretty good action shots. Check out the one below with the ball coming off the bat.

Oakland Coliseum

The food and beer here were pretty cheap compared to most ballparks. But its $17 to park in that HUGE parking lot. You can get a full sized plastic souvenir helmet filled with popcorn for $6, pretty cool. I didn't want an A's helmet though so I didn't get it. They need to have Cubbie helmets with popcorn.

As I said earlier, the fireworks show was played to the "Rock of ages" soundtrack. It was a good fireworks show. I have yet to see a bad one at a MLB park. Here is the last bit of the fireworks show. I have a better video, but it is longer and the blog will not let me load it.

Overall we had a great time at this park, and really enjoyed the game. It is definitely not one of the top parks, but it wont be used much longer, hopefully, so I am glad I hit it.

AT&T Park, 2012

This was game 3 of our 5 game trip in 2012. I was here in 09' for a tour of the park, but a game is a whole lot better. This was the only day game of our trip, and it was a gorgeous day. A bit cloudy, nothing unusual in SF, but sunny and comfortable. I love day games, but parks have a totally different feel at night. Its a hard choice, but I love them both.

The stadium was pretty full and it was buzzing because of Matt Cain's perfect game the night before. Apparently so were some of the SF players, since hardly any regulars started. The after game party was probably pretty good on Wednesday.

We had seats in the bleachers just below the coke bottle and glove. We also moved around the park a bit. I was looking forward to getting some pics of the structures and they came out pretty sweet.

Here is a pic of the RF wall from our seats, we also hung over there for an couple of innings during after getting our food. I wanted to try the garlic fries and the crab sandwich. We ran across the fries first, and decided to just get the fries so I would have room for later. Well, they give you a huge portion, and I ate them all not leaving room for the crab sandwich later. Oh well. They were delish! Gotta try them if you go.

We walked around the stadium looking to take pics of the statues. I found them all, except Willie McCovey's. I didn't know it was there when I was in SF last time and couldn't find it now. I asked when I got inside and found out it was across McCovey's cove. We cruised over there after the game, and I finally got it!!

Juan Marichal

Willie Mays

Orlando Cepeda

Willie McCovey

So here are some game pics. The first is from our seats in the bleachers. Awesome views from all places in the park. Thats Chris trying to get his mug in the first pic. I figured the least I could do is give him his wish. The next 2 pics are from the Levi's Landing in RF.

I love it when ballparks have a place to let people watch the game from while standing up. When you like to move around the park, there is better opportunities to do so when you can see the game from multiple places.

So we talked about the fact that no team has ever thrown 2 no hitters in a row, so maybe we could see history. Well Zito ended that quick by giving up a single on the first pitch.
Then in the 2nd inning, Zito walked 3 straight batters and then gave up a grand slam on the next pitch. It kind of reminded me of the movie Major League. It ended up being a 6-3 win by the Astros. It was a good game though, and the crowd was lively.

As we approached the bay area that morning the traffic was terrible. So after finding some radio reports on it, it seems the BART (train) station across the bay bridge caught on fire and was shut down for the day. That alone caused enough of a problem to cause a major backup. Well then the US Open was in SF too. The radio was saying that this was the worst gridlock in the history of SF. But, I made the game on time, so whats 3 hours sitting on a bridge. No big deal!

Heres a little video I shot from our seats in the bleachers with my IPhone.

We also hit SF the next morning before the A's game and hit Fishermans wharf, the cable cars, Union square, and a few other things. There is alot you can do in a day there because its all so close. We didn't get to go to Alcatraz because it was sold out for the next 5 days. I had seen all of this stuff, but Chris really wanted to sit on a toilet in the cell at Alcatraz.

Dodger Stadium, 2012

#20
Dodger Stadium

This was the 2nd of our 5 game trip in 2012. This is a classic stadium, in the sense of the history and the age of it. I, like most, probably remember the Gibson home run more than anything, but a lot has happened here.

It has a nice view from behind home plate. It is just mountains but still a pretty nice view. The outside of the park is pretty basic. Lots of foliage around the park that covers a lot of it up, but what you can see is basic.

Once inside the park, we headed to the upper deck for some pics, and right behind home plate is the sign with the Dodgers logo on it. One thing I didn't like here is they do not let you move around the park to take pictures. When so many people are doing trips like this, why wouldn't parks let people move around to see the park. I understand not letting people try to sneak better seats, but all parks deal with that issue and still let you roam the park if you want.

The scoreboard here is kind of outdated, but still nice. It has a classic look and fits the park well, but with the new ownership, I wouldn't be surprised to see it updated. They could keep the same look and update the boards, they did it in KC and it came out great.

So on the way to the stadium, Chris says to me, "Do you think the cup will be there?" Well, since the Kings just won the Stanley Cup, and both LA teams were gonna be there, kinda like when the Blackhawks won a couple of years ago they did it at Wrigley. Well thats what happened . It was pretty cool too. They got pics with the teams and all lined up and threw a  first pitch to all the dodger players at the same time.

So on to the game. It was a pitchers game. 2-1 win by the Halos. 2 solo shots by the Angels. But the most interesting thing to happen that night was during the 7th inning I heard on the monitor in the concourse that Matt Cain was perfect through 7. So I was keeping up with that while watching the last few innings here. He ended up pitching the Perfect game, and we were headed up there the next day. 1 day away from seeing a perfect game. Bummer.
So, now about the biggest negative here. The parking situation. The parking lot does not open until 2 hours before a game. NOT a minute earlier. There were people pulling in to the entrance and told to turn around and come back. The roads all approaching the park were lined on the sides with cars waiting to get in. Then even with that, once you get in and park, which is only $10 by the way, the stadium doesn't open until 1 1/2 hours before the game.  For most I guess its ok, but when you want to look around, kinda sucks.

We didn't eat at the stadium. I was planning on it, but when we couldn't get into the parking lot and was told to come back at 5:10, no earlier, we went to eat to pass time and, well we were hungry. I guess its their loss, cause Chris eats like a horse.

Hollywood sign

So we got to LA real early that day since it was only 2 hours from SD. So I figured why not check some stuff out. Without a plan, we just made our way around and went up the mountain with the best view of the HOLLYWOOD sign. What a ride. It was tight and curvy, I wish I had my MINI!

After seeing that, we went down to Hollywood Blvd and walked around the walk of fame or whatever it is. It was pretty cool and passed the time. Chris was hoping to see a famous person, but no such luck. No biggie.
