I plan to visit a few new parks every year, and will post pics and comments as I do. Feel free to leave your opinions of these parks in each post in the comments section.ballpark junkiehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15992294794188487591noreply@blogger.comBlogger72125tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3400747648624117835.post-37829930878610577482018-06-22T08:00:00.003-07:002018-06-22T08:08:09.696-07:00Safeco Field #32ballpark junkiehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15992294794188487591noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3400747648624117835.post-47384479342086773632018-06-22T08:00:00.000-07:002018-06-22T08:07:56.015-07:00Suntrust Park #31ballpark junkiehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15992294794188487591noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3400747648624117835.post-66412968729033791582015-07-18T05:42:00.000-07:002016-06-12T05:48:34.217-07:00Turner Field , 2015Only hit Turner field a couple of times this year. 2 of the 3 Cubs games that were here, plus a misc Brewers game. I was too busy watching the Cubs on TV to go see many games. We never made it on a trip this year either, but at least I got Arizona in early in the season. If a trip fails next year as well, I will hop on a plane and knock out Seattle. I plan on hitting Minnesota in 2017 when I make my next Wrigley trip. I want to wait until most of the remodel is done before I go back up so I can tour it all and take in all the changes. Of course 2017 will also be the new Suntrust Park in Atlanta. Hopefully I will have them all in by then. We'll see!ballpark junkiehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15992294794188487591noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3400747648624117835.post-58292024255298072892015-04-07T07:01:00.000-07:002015-11-12T05:32:06.195-08:00Chase Field , 2015<div style="text-align: center;">

This park reminds me a lot of Miami's park, but not as "futuristic" of a feel to it. They are both very nice, with retractable roofs, and in the middle of a tight downtown area. There was a huge parking garage next to the park, just like in Miami. That is nice, but kind of sucks for tailgating. Below is the pic as we were driving up to it. I couldn't get a pic far enough away with a decent angle, so this is it. </div>

They had all the all-star statues from the various games that used them in the past. These are neat and a nice piece of memorabilia, but as I have seen them in more stadiums, I realize its good they don't do them every year or it would just be a lot of crap. </div>

As you see at the top pf the post, this is the 30th ballpark for me. I have been to 3 that are no longer in service, so that leaves me 3 left to complete my tour. Atlanta will be open in 2017 so I will be able to hit that one pretty easy, and it will hopefully be # 34 for me. </div>

This is an awesome ballpark. The exterior is fantastic. It has a lot of detail and great landscaping around the park. Jerry world is right next door and I think they might share the parking lot. </div>

So I have a nice Canon SR1 camera that I bring on these trips, and have spare batteries for it. It would help if I didn't leave the spares in the hotel room. Of course the time I don't bring a spare, the camera dies. At least I had the iPhone, but not as good as the real thing. </div>

The outside of the park is pretty basic. Not bad looking but nothing special. Also it is pretty tight around there so its tough to get a pic of the outside. </div>

This is the Plaza outside the park that is set up like a mini park. It has plaques of a lot of former players and the statues of Biggio and Bagwell. I don't have a lot of room to talk being a Cubs fan, but they don't even have enough history to fill up the flags on the little bleacher section. </div>

On to the game. Houston scored the first couple rund and was leading 2-0 in the 4th. Then the Rangers bats came alive. they scored 6 runs in the next 4 innings, including the 2 HR by Choo and Beltre. It was kind of a boring game with the exception of the bombs.</div>

<div style="text-align: center;">

<div style="text-align: center;">
This is the 100 Anniversary of Wrigley Field, and since I haven't been since 2011, I figured it would be a good excuse to make a trip up there. </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
On the way up from Atlanta, I stopped at the Louisville Slugger Museum and did the tour. They happened to be making the bats for the All-Star game that day. The tour was short but interesting. I don't feel like it needs to have its own post, so I am just gonna work it into here. </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgyDGK8-ccIW2Q9uRGSBOgXnH03iD3E1kHQ6YKfUKD5JDExJu-S8viXjSE3wkkj7hJ17YtKA3aUkN_iVS5XRPfRp7e1Dz45cS40PX5W7Y-l4q67FkQkxZPNVMl5s1jQMGCdbRvFHa7hVf5a/s1600/IMG_4149.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgyDGK8-ccIW2Q9uRGSBOgXnH03iD3E1kHQ6YKfUKD5JDExJu-S8viXjSE3wkkj7hJ17YtKA3aUkN_iVS5XRPfRp7e1Dz45cS40PX5W7Y-l4q67FkQkxZPNVMl5s1jQMGCdbRvFHa7hVf5a/s1600/IMG_4149.JPG" height="213" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I also stopped in Indy and stayed there for the night, so why not catch a AAA game while there. The Indians, who by the way are the Pirates affiliate, were home and playing the Columbus Clippers. It was a very nice park for a AAA park. It was also Star Wars night at the park. </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
On to Wrigley. I got to Chicago around 9 a.m. and was gonna take the train into Wrigley from the Midway Airport, but as I got into the City, the rains came hard. I pulled into a parking lot and sat there for about 2 hours hoping this would blow over. The storm was a huge blob on the radar, but moving quickly. Well I decided to go to the train and head into Wrigleyville and if it got rained out, then I would just hang there and do whatever. As I got to Addison on the red line, it was dissipating. I got off and started walking around Wrigleyville and there was 3 hours until game time, so I went to the Cubby Bear and got an Italian Beef sandwich, since in Atlanta there is no one with one on their menu. </div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
After that I cruised around the outside and saw the Ron Santo statue. This went up a week after I was at here in 2011. I had seen all the others, but not this one. </div>

I sat in the bleachers for the first time. I wanted to do this a few times, but never got around to it. It is nice because you can move around as long as there is room. I sat in right field to start, then moved to left then sat under the scoreboard for a bit. </div>

This is Arismendy Alcantara. He is a call up from the AAA squad this week and could be key in our future. He is tearing it up in his first 4 games, but we all know that's only 4 games. He is our 4th best prospect and the others will be up by the end of the year or to start 2015. </div>

Edwin Jackson started for the Cubs. Do I need to say more. He gave up 9 ER in under 4 innings. Considering we lost 11-6, if he would have been just his normal bad self we might have had a chance. </div>

If your reading this, you have probably already heard that this park is pretty bad. It isn't terrible. but has plenty of issues. For one, the "grass" looks like it is dying. This is a huge problem because it is fake!! Maybe they want to make it look real so the make it look like it is dying? IDK, but it looked pretty bad. Also from the lower level, you cannot see the bottom of the score board or the video board, which show in game stats, which if you actually follow the game, you want to see. It would probably be a lot nicer if it were a retractable dome. It was a nice night and would have had a better feel if it were opened up. </div>

<br /></div>
<div class="" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
On to the game. Well nothing happened in this game that was memorable, unless you count the Yanks getting spanked 16-1. There were 2 players that hit 2 HR each for the Rays, Will Myers and Ryan Hannigan, I was hoping for a third from each, but no such luck. Dean Anna, who has been filling in for Jeter on his off days, did pitch one inning and gave up 2 runs, but he was better than most the other Yankees pitchers. Speaking of Jeter, the reason we mainly went down at this time was to see him, and of course he has been nursing a pulled quad muscle they picked this game out of the 4 game set to rest him. </div>

So this will be my one post on all games that I attend at Turner this year. Now that it has been announced that the Braves are building a new park, I guess I only have a few years left to enjoy this one before going to see the new one. I am hoping that the new one will bring an opportunity to go see the All-Star game.<br />
<br />
<div style="text-align: left;">
<b>A's 8/16</b></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<b><br /></b></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
I was supposed to go to this game with my cousin, but he unfortunately couldn't make it so I asked Terry if he was free, and he was. We got there and were able to tailgate a bit, smoke a cigar and drink a couple of cold ones. I was hoping to see Samardzija or Lester pitch, but no luck there. It was a competitive game and went down to the wire with Kimbrel walking the lead off hitter in the 9th, but then he shut them down hitting 99 several times on the gun. The Braves won the game 4-3.</div>
<br />
<div style="text-align: left;">
<b>Cubs 5/11</b></div>
</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br />
This was game 3 of the 3 game set, and the Cubs went down again, 5-2. We were once again in the game, 3-2, until our bullpen came in and gave up 2 more runs. I have been hoping to be at a "milestone" game, you know, 500 HR, 2000 hits etc. Well this was kind of a milestone game. The Cubs lost their 10,000 game in the history of the franchise. Not exactly the type of milestone I was looking for, but still a milestone, I guess. They were the 3rd team in MLB history to reach this mark. The Braves and Phillies have both been there for a few years. By the way, the Cubs hit 10,000 wins back in 2008 so its not like all they do is lose! They are actually 2nd to the Giants in all time wins, although the Dodgers might catch them if they don't start playing better pretty quick.<br />
<br />
<div style="text-align: left;">
<b>Cubs 5/10</b></div>
<br />
This was game 2 of the 3 game set. Jeff Samardzija was on the mound and didn't disappoint. Unfortunately, our offense did. Once again we couldn't push a run across and our bullpen gave up just enough to lose the game 2-0. I just got Gen Admission tix last night and moved around the park a bit. I started up top in RF, and was alone up there for the most part, until the rain hit and it became the best seats in the house. I moved away from there after play resumed, and cruised around between innings.<br />
We will try again on Sunday, with Mickey.<br />
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<b>Nationals 4/12</b></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiojPqFRXeJSk1-_ohS8my-5tatdDpK5TwFZKZrK9lnnojq5VOu_beU60JHjTEh85BSp75vhD6hRSVma7q9GMQV5InG022NHVl3HQdZencZuCKJRDAYbBzizFWC-f_d2YAKZ21XqI_d_8b1/s1600/10173680_10201690842221781_733395621431195575_n.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiojPqFRXeJSk1-_ohS8my-5tatdDpK5TwFZKZrK9lnnojq5VOu_beU60JHjTEh85BSp75vhD6hRSVma7q9GMQV5InG022NHVl3HQdZencZuCKJRDAYbBzizFWC-f_d2YAKZ21XqI_d_8b1/s1600/10173680_10201690842221781_733395621431195575_n.jpg" height="320" width="234" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
So here was the view from my seat. This was the RF corner and front row. Of course no home run's came our way tonite, although there were 3 hit in the game. The Braves won the game 6-3 and it was a pretty entertaining game. Rendon led off the game with a solo HR, and it was not what was too come. The Nats only managed to squeeze a couple more runs in in the late innings but couldn't overcome the 4 run 1st by the Bravos. BJ Upton hit a HR in the 1st, and got a mixed reaction from the crowd, he still has a lot to prove before he will get full support from the fans. Freddie however hit a shot to CF, because I was in right, and the crowd went absolutely crazy, including myself. I don't typically root for the Braves, but I really like Freddie Freeman. The fans booed Bryce Harper as usual, but the fans in my corner were really tough on Nate McClouth. They rode him for the whole game and I guess they think he was the reason they didn't win while he was in Atlanta. I never liked him as a player, but he was not the reason the Braves didn't win. </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
It was a crazy busy afternoon as far as tailgating goes. The first Saturday of the season and the weather was awesome. 75, sunny, with a slight breeze. They were doing some serious partying out there today. I brought my cousin Mickey to the game, I told him ahead of time that it would be like that, but he didn't believe it until he saw it. I am curious what the tailgating will be like when the new park comes along, since there are gonna be a lot of bars and places to eat right by the park. </div>

With Shawn being a Yankee fan, we have to hit at least one Yankee game this year since Jeter is on his farewell tour. While one of our possibilities is a trip to Yankee Stadium this year, that's not set in stone yet. We might end up going to Texas, which one of the trips has the Yanks at the Rangers. Well one thing we can do is go to Tampa where a division rival plays and we have lots of chances. We decided on Saturday April 19. Terry, Shaw'ns dad is going with us and were meeting another friend in Tampa. We get to see Jeter at least once in his final season, and knock another park off our list. I know the Trop isn't much to see, but it still counts, and the Rays/Yanks are pretty competitive against each other. Looking forward to it.</div>

So here's the plan for next year. Well, maybe. The first challenge is that we need to do the trip(s) either before May 15 or after July 4. There are scheduling issues during that time frame. That said, I only have 1 park left in the NE, that being Yankee Stadium. Shawn needs to see Citi and Nationals park as well. I have some dates at the end of April that would work for all 3. BUT, we did the NE last year at that time and it was nice for 2 days then in Philly it got real cold real fast. I would still like to complete the NE and then we can focus on other areas for a while. But this trip only knocks 1 off MY list. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg5E_fuWOO1_YYMdPO0UANl4_7-8Jvx8BGguGXwquOBV4MBLLNG8DmOs5qjj_oJPvTABob9MLfmBGlzxSW33PiJi32dcjPzRZAvzz2OZQyENOK4XOWkLTZWJtOfi6heGizbcXiAtwws9YfA/s1600/new+yankee+stadium.bmp" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg5E_fuWOO1_YYMdPO0UANl4_7-8Jvx8BGguGXwquOBV4MBLLNG8DmOs5qjj_oJPvTABob9MLfmBGlzxSW33PiJi32dcjPzRZAvzz2OZQyENOK4XOWkLTZWJtOfi6heGizbcXiAtwws9YfA/s320/new+yankee+stadium.bmp" width="320" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Yankee Stadium</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Next option, which I am all for , but would need to get Shawn to buy into, is Minnesota. I want to go to an All-star game. I need to see Target Field. Hmm? Being that it is out of the way of other parks, why not dedicate the trip to there, and kill two birds......</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
It wouldn't be too much more $$ that a typical 3-4 day park trip. I know that if you fly in the park is about 2 miles from the airport so we could get around w/o a problem. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
If not the All-star game, we can get to Target in about 7 hours from Chicago, so I could work it in with a trip top Wrigley. Either way, this will only knock one off MY list</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgzwhE7BoIuZo7KBDC7IvEPRJGivH3wqi4WTzFp6FhKPB3q7QEK6lI0ZXS85FVrGjdmHN256JCTcwhMkr8a3sUezzJbUeQIRLGHeC1M_zyHTVXYz9x-FGZE2zkDMw-AgKZ58-v_PIiPFa3C/s1600/Target+Field.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="212" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgzwhE7BoIuZo7KBDC7IvEPRJGivH3wqi4WTzFp6FhKPB3q7QEK6lI0ZXS85FVrGjdmHN256JCTcwhMkr8a3sUezzJbUeQIRLGHeC1M_zyHTVXYz9x-FGZE2zkDMw-AgKZ58-v_PIiPFa3C/s320/Target+Field.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Target Field</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
The last option would be to go to see the 2 Texas teams. This one is pretty straight forward. They are about 4 hours from each other and we could get there on the day of game 1 and drive to game 2, then come home on day 3. Pretty straight forward. Lots of date options as well.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Also, it probably wont be 28 degrees in April in Texas. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
This will kill two off my list.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiZ6NFBHGMoCNPG8CeHVGHQcc0zZCZ0zV95rcUMR-Xle97zyH6d-SgogGZvBj_743W9aUZs-LoGSuj335dEqjhLsPJiUhqGMqdz6zTEnFCqeD0MUUl8wRKRTyDT2U_GkzE7_qQ5Yo0XsAdi/s1600/min+maid.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiZ6NFBHGMoCNPG8CeHVGHQcc0zZCZ0zV95rcUMR-Xle97zyH6d-SgogGZvBj_743W9aUZs-LoGSuj335dEqjhLsPJiUhqGMqdz6zTEnFCqeD0MUUl8wRKRTyDT2U_GkzE7_qQ5Yo0XsAdi/s320/min+maid.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Minute Maid Park</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
I have a lot of dates lined up and ready to go. Just need Shawn's input. </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
I will be hitting up Tampa this year as well, even though it is not a lot to see, it is still a MLB park. </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
With 7 left to start, if we do NE or Target Field, I will have only 5 left, or if we do Texas that leaves me with 4. Plus I am trying to convince my wife that Seattle is a worthy vacation spot to sneak that in. </div>
<div>

The match up was Clayton Kershaw vs. Kris Medlen, which was a great pitchers duel on paper. It ended up not being that way. In the 1st, Medlen struck out the side, but that didn't last. The Braves just forgot how to play defense. There were 2 plays that should have been errors that went for hits. Overall, Medlen wasn't that bad, but once a few runs were scored on him, against Kershaw, you knew the Braves were in trouble. </div>

<div class="" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
As I am sitting here writing this, Sunday, 2 days later, Henderson Alvarez just completed a no hitter against the Tigers. Why do I come within a few innings of a game I am at, or a few days before or after one every year. I guess it just wasn't meant to be. </div>
<div class="" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Now that I got that off my chest, I heard a lot of different opinions on this Park, but I left my judgement open like I always do. Upon arrival I saw it from the freeway, but as I got closer, I had a hard time finding a place to get a pic of the outside because there are too many buildings around it. They are small buildings, but I didn't feel like climbing on roofs. But I found a decent spot. It definitely has a futuristic look to it from the outside. Nothing exciting, but not bad looking either. From this angle, it almost looks like a really big round office building. </div>
<br />

Once you get around the other side, where the sliding roof is, that is where the ramps are as well. It still has a very good clean look though. It fits the Florida theme with its look and all the palm trees around it. The sidewalks are painted in "South Florida" colors, but actually look pretty cool. The main clubhouse store is right here too, but there is no access to it from inside, and the ones inside don't have anywhere near the selection to choose from. </div>

The main concourse is wide open from foul pole to foul pole. It has the stands behind the last row of seats so if you want to eat your food there, or just hang out there, you can. Philly, Atlanta and a few others are like this as well. I like that so if you go to get a drink or whatever, you can still get a glimpse of the game until you get back to your seat.</div>

This is obviously a pic from the upper deck. My seat was just inside the 3rd base dugout. I wouldn't give anything here a top 5 rating, but overall this was a very nice stadium, except for the WTF piece of art in the outfield. </div>

I asked the season ticket holders I sat with about it, and they said they haven't talked to anybody that likes it. It only does its thing when a Marlin hits a home run, so I didn't get to see it in action. </div>

The scoreboard is nice and it fits well into the layout of the park, but once again, it's nothing unique about it. They do have all the line-ups on the side of the video part through the whole game, which not all teams do, some only put it up when needed. </div>

The Marlins won this game 3-2. All three runs came on this double that Stanton hit. That man will look great in Cubbie blue some day. There were a lot of Tigers fans there, and even the regular fans seemed a lot more than what I expected. In the first inning I figured out why, when Miguel Cabrera came up to bat and got a standing ovation. I realized then that not only he was there, but also Leyland, who managed them to a World Series win. Don't get me wrong, the stadium was still more than 50% empty, but that's a lot compared to what they have had lately. </div>

The roof was open on and it was a beautiful night. Not only does the roof open and close for weather, but according to the regulars around me, so do the sections behind the outfield concourse. I looked it up and it appears that there are sliding doors that close that section off. It was open as well, and the breeze coming in made it a great night to watch a game. </div>

Speaking of that outfield concourse, as you can see from the picture above this one, from the left field line to the WTF thing it is wide open for standing room, and there is a Budweiser patio over there too. It is a very nice design throughout the whole park. They flashed up a sign on the video screen late in the game that said "rainouts year to date 0". I know that number was pretty big for them before that. </div>

I'm going to south Florida to see some family next week and I'm gonna hit Marlins Park while I am there. It's the last week of the season and they are Playing the Tigers. I would have hit the Rays too on the way home, but they are on the road, so I guess it will have to do. I have heard a lot of mixed opinions on it, so I will be able to give my opinion on it when I get back. I hope to see a HR so I can see that stupid thing in the outfield do its thing, just to say I saw how stupid it was. </div>

This pic is from the internet, and I'm pretty sure there wont be this many people there when I go, but I hope it doesn't rain so the roof is open. I have seats on the lower level between the 3rd base dugout and home plate, but I might sneak out to left field since there will be a few power hitters there. Maybe I will get lucky and Serena's (TBB) future ex husband #4 will be pitching. Don't know who that is? Click on the Travelling baseball babes link on the right sidebar!</div>

With the season almost over, I look back and realize that I have gone to more minor league games than MLB ones this year. Nothing wrong with that, but I am just used to seeing more Braves games. It appears they will be in, at least, the first full round of playoffs, so I will try to get to one of those games.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
In the meantime, I just went to a Smokies (Cubs) @ Lookouts (Dodgers) AA game last weekend. I have been wanting to get up there for a while now, and since Javy Baez was there, it was a great chance to see him too. This kid is good. Nothing is ever guaranteed, but he could be a huge part of our future. He didn't disappoint, his first at bat he nearly cleared the scoreboard in left field. Shawn, who is a Yanks fan, said he looked like a "man among boys out there" </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEifUwWZMQiAh2KcMD4cUZYh0UftjKghGKK6KlIGJd4ICUgs6q0WVcM7a9v1yFe6PFDyZ1giFWBMLAC8fKc-gDXnHhbXHSIeVDXBHlH3C6b5sSBAZZiMSJSBT6Bq4yOcTx28Sh4Rt6B-msJM/s1600/IMG_0383.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEifUwWZMQiAh2KcMD4cUZYh0UftjKghGKK6KlIGJd4ICUgs6q0WVcM7a9v1yFe6PFDyZ1giFWBMLAC8fKc-gDXnHhbXHSIeVDXBHlH3C6b5sSBAZZiMSJSBT6Bq4yOcTx28Sh4Rt6B-msJM/s320/IMG_0383.JPG" width="213" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
The season took a downturn when the Cubs traded away a lot of players, which was to be expected. Even with that, we need 1 more win to match last years win total, with 22 games left. Not significant improvement, but whats the difference between 65 or 75 wins. nothing really, and we got some great prospects for some of the moves. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Soon it will be focusing on the off season and see if the Cubs make a move for a key piece of offense that can help this line-up. There are rumors about going after Choo, or possibly Cano. I don't see Cano happening, but possibly Choo, and that would be a huge help to this lineup. If we can just add a couple of pieces this off season, and Bryant and Baez can be midyear call ups, we could be in position to do something good next season. Time will tell. </div>

So that time of year is here again, and unfortunately, the Cubs are selling again, but we are playing a lot better and this time next year I think (hope) we could be buying. </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
The Cubs made some minor moves sending Scott Feldman to the O's and Scott Hairston to the Nats. The biggest move just happened when we sent Matt Garza to the Rangers for 3 strong prospects and a PTBNL. Mike Olt, who has struggled a bit this year, but I think could be our 3rd baseman of the future and 2 pitchers, CJ Edwards and Justin Grimm. </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Garza is a free agent at the end of the year, and I wouldn't be surprised if the Cubs are in on his bidding. </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhefSk8K_Z3sdtc8L2jUZrlEAlYSc6YoKSMR11S_3lTklp-YnRVja0gTCEVWklWs5pL7q9vXdkjdG2ZvUJlcmfPcQRvddEtzVH6tBR1gqIyMD-rLy0_cOAIVK3dXLmLN4Ews1HOBjpkAVUj/s1600/chi_a_matt-garza_mb_576.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="180" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhefSk8K_Z3sdtc8L2jUZrlEAlYSc6YoKSMR11S_3lTklp-YnRVja0gTCEVWklWs5pL7q9vXdkjdG2ZvUJlcmfPcQRvddEtzVH6tBR1gqIyMD-rLy0_cOAIVK3dXLmLN4Ews1HOBjpkAVUj/s320/chi_a_matt-garza_mb_576.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
There are still plenty of rumors flying around. Soriano to the Yanks? Kevin Gregg to a team needing some bullpen help? We will see about that, but as far as others like DeJesus, Schierholtz, and Navarro, well I don't see them going anywhere unless someone is going to overpay for them. I guess we will find out soon. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
In other interesting Cubbie news, how about Junior Lake! He is HOT right now. It's only been a week, so we will see how long it lasts, but when so many young players come up and struggle at first, he is hitting .580 after a week. That will go down, but it is adding some excitement to the season so enjoy it. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

They say that you shouldn't look at the standings in baseball until Memorial Day. Once it is here, there have been enough games to give a little more realistic view of what teams are capable of. If that's the case, well my Cubs aren't capable of competing for the playoffs. That said, I do see a lot of improvement this year and if we just get one or two more pieces for next year we should be able to compete for the playoffs. Castro and Rizzo continue to improve, and Samardzija looks like he could possibly become our ace. The questions will be what will the Cubs do with Garza and what other moves will we do this year at the trade deadline. Two players that I would love to see in cubbie blue are Chase Headley and Giancarlo Stanton. I known we couldn't get both and either one would cost us a few pieces, but either would fit great in the lineup with our other big pieces.</div>

<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
This was the 3rd and final park of our trip. After great weather in Pittsburgh, missing the rain and the city being shut down to see a great game in Boston, the weather was supposed to be nice for Philly. Well it was nice, if your a penguin. It got down to below 40 with 15 mph winds.<br />
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
We got to Philly early and went to Pat's King of Steaks. It was awesome. I had been to Geno's before, but Shawn hadn't had either, so we went to Pat's. I was hungry after having to drive around for 30 minutes to find a place to park, then walk 3 blocks to get there. I forgot to take a pic of that awesome sandwich. Oh well, you'll have to use your imagination. </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">

<div class="" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
This park reminded me a lot of Atlanta, and a few other parks. The concourses were wide open and there are stands to eat, drink and hang out behind the last row. There are also a lot of these places around the park, on the second level, in the outfield area, etc. I like that, especially when you like to move around a park like we typically do. Well we walked around a lot before the game, but once it started and it got dark, we didn't move a lot. It was freezing. Even the Philly fans were freezing, but they were bundled up a little better than us. One good thing was that the park emptied out early being a Sunday night with school/work in the morning. </div>

This statue is in Ashburn Alley across the outfield. There are lots of places to eat, drink, and watch the game from out there. </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
One of those places was Bull's BBQ. Man, you could smell this place from every place in the park. </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
We weren't hungry when we got there, after eating our cheese steaks for lunch, but by the 6th inning we were drawn to it. It was good. </div>

Our seats were right above the xfinity sign in the pic here. We were up towards the aisle, but they were great seats. Everything you have heard about Philly fans, well at least most of it, is true. Dominic Brown was in LF and there was a single to left that he didn't dive for, and man did he hear it from the crowd. They didn't let up on him the whole game. </div>

The Phillies were playing the Cardinals, so I was a Phillies fan that night. </div>
<div class="" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
It was a pretty tight game, a lot of hits but only a little scoring until the bottom of the 8th when Ben Revere broke a 3-3 tie with a single, then Erik Kratz shot down the red birds with a 3 run home run. </div>

This was the 2nd park of 3 on our trip. The best way to enter the park is through Yawkey Way. This place is awesome. It's like a pregame party in the street. The whole street is blocked off and you can go in and out of the stadium if you want. </div>

As I said, this was the first home game since the troubles and the city was shut down the day before. We were headed here from the Hall of Fame and were concerned about not being able to see a game. We were listening to news and eventually they lifted the ban and said to go back to normal the next day, even though they hadn't caught him yet. They got him a few hours later. The pregame ceremonies were very emotional and Big Papi charged the crowd up more with his pregame speech. </div>

The tradition of singing "Sweet Caroline" was something I was looking forward to. Well, it got even better when before the song, Neil Diamond came out to lead the crowd in the song. He was inspired by the way the city pulled together. </div>

A couple of shots from the game. It was a tight game and it looked like Boston might lose until the the bottom of the 8th down 2-1 with 2 outs. Daniel Nava stepped up with 2 on and hit a 3 run shot. The crowd went wild. KC managed a solo shot over the monster in the top of the 9th, but it wasn't enough.<br />

So one disappointing thing about this trip was that Sam Adams brewery cancelled all tours that weekend due to the issues. I understand, but it still sucked. I can't complain considering 24 hours before that, we thought we might not be able to even enter the city. We did get to go to Harpoon brewery that evening after the game, and lets just say we made up for our loss!</div>

One note, it was great listening to the Boston accents through the day, and the more they drink, the more it comes out. Shawn and I were using them all the way home and the people in Philly probably thought we were crazy, but who cares. </div>

This isn't a ballpark obviously, but anyone who loves going to ballparks would love this. We decided to add this into the trip since we are going to have to make another trip to the NE again to complete the parks up there. I still have new Yankee and Shawn has Yankee, Citi and Nats park. I took about 250 pics here so I can't post them all, but I will post what I can. </div>

So as I was planning this, I wanted to see the HOF as a whole, but I also was looking forward to seeing the Cubs history there. There was plenty. Here is just a sample of the Cubs displays there. The best part about this is that this is all original. These are actual jerseys, gloves, bats, etc. that were worn and used by the players. </div>

This park has an absolutely beautiful skyline and backdrop. The city would be enough, but the bridges just add more to the view. Still being early season they are still cutting the grass fancy. some parks go away from this as the season moves on. </div>

As usual, I will be making multiple game posts on this page. I will be going to at least 3-4 more Braves games. It's only 1 week into the year and the Braves fans are already starting to tick me off. Yes, I know that you have a good team, and that my team kinda sucks, I get it, but when your awesome team actually wins something, gimme a call. Until then, STFU. Now on to the games.<br />
<br />
<div style="text-align: left;">
<b>Nationals 4/29</b></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
These were the free seats that I won through work. I've been lucky enough to win these four years straight now. As you can see they are awesome seats. Plus, we moved up about 8 more rows after the 2nd inning. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I was looking forward to seeing Strasburg, but he didn't impress tonight. He was wild and seemed like he was having a hard time locating his pitches. After seeing the replays he was very wild. Even with that he was still pretty good.He gave up 6 hits and 2 runs in 6 innings, He did walk 4 though, and that hurt him. Also the fact that the Nats were hitting Teheran around for 10 hits in 5 innings but only put 2 on the board due to getting picked off twice. Span on 1st in the 1st with Harper up. Harper doubled, run lost. Then Strasburg came up in the 2nd with 2 on and 0 out. He failed to get the bunt down and to make things worse, Tracy got picked off at 2nd after the 3rd strike bunt attempt. The braves scratched across a couple more runs and won 3-2. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
It was a good game and competitive. I found it interesting that the crowd was booing Bryce Harper so hard. I know he is a little arrogant, but I guess they are just admitting that the kid is good. Maybe they will understand why so many people boo'ed Chipper all these years. </div>

Here is the current saying on the chik-fila cow. I think that is a repeat one, but I will have to look back on that. It was a beautiful day, especially for 1st week of April. After the Cubs blowing a 5-1 lead in the 8th last night to lose 6-5 on a walk-off in the 9th, I didn't have high hopes for today. I was right. The Cubs took an early lead with a RBI by Rizzo in the 1st. Samardzjia was sharp today, but started to lose it in the 5th, and made it 1-1. He ended up giving up 3 more in the 6th and was clearly worn, because he threw 2 wild pitches and walked Gattis, who is a power hitter, but is not known for his walks. Dan Uggla added a solo shot in the 8th to make it a 5-1 final. </div>

We had seats right up the 1st base line 2 rows from the field. That's where the Tool race characters come out for the race. They look even stranger up close. </div>

I got a new zoom lens and am very happy with the results. Check out the ball that Soriano is about to hit for a single. It would have been cooler if he hit it for a HR, but no luck today.<br />
By the way, the Final Four was in town this weekend, and there was a rock n roll "festival" right around the corner, so the traffic was an absolute nightmare. I knew it was gonna be bad, but what I didn't count on was the out of town guests that had no clue where they were going which caused gridlock around Turner Field. All the reason more to go tailgate early. </div>

Before I get into the trip, I will be going to see the Cubs at Turner field on April 7. I didn't get to my first game last year until June. I will have at least 4, probably 5 in by May 1 this year. I will try to hit the Cubs on the 5th as well, if I can get out of work. I already have minor league tickets for the 6th, so I will have to miss that one. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Now, onto the trip. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
5 weeks from now and we will be traveling on our way to Pittsburgh. They will be hosting the Braves. We are gonna try to hit Primanti Bros while there, which shouldn't be hard because there is actually one in the stadium if we cant hit the one near the stadium. The local beer seems to be Iron City beer, so we will have to sample one with our sandwich. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
We will then be heading to Cooperstown NY to hit the Hall of Fame. The plan is to spend the whole day cruising through the halls and we will spend a lot of time there. It closes at 5 p.m., which works out great because we are about 4 hours from our hotel outside of Boston from there.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
We will crash outside of Boston, get up early and take the train into Boston early Saturday a.m.. Sam Adams has it's first tour around 10 a.m. and we will be there early to try to get in. The game is at 1:30 at Fenway vs. the Royals, so we will have plenty of time to get there. After the game we have a few options. We could go tour the Harpoon brewery, or just hang in the area around Fenway, and hit the local bars. Or both! We are staying in Boston that night too so it we have some flexibility. Taking transit around allows us to drink freely. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Sunday am we will be heading to Philly. After a 5 hour drive, we have some time to burn as well since the game vs. the Cardinals is the Sunday night game. Obviously we will be getting a cheese steak. Pats? Geno's? Well that is still up for debate. I read somewhere online that, since they are basically across the street from each other, to hit both. That a lot of food. We will see. That still leaves us with some spare time. I'm sure the game will be pretty filled considering it is a prime time game. We will get there early to check out the park. If we have a few hours extra, and anyone has any ideas, not including the historical stuff (Liberty Bell, etc) throw it out there. There are some local breweries, but they don't do tours on Sunday if at all. </div>
